Recently I wrote a simple post on ‘’the source of our power behind a burdened heart in Evangelism’’ whereby we got the chance to discuss why or what should be the reason for us as believers in Christ to have a burdened heart for the lost. In today’s post, I also want to share with you another key ingredient in Evangelism as a whole especially when it comes to personal evangelism, sharing the truth with others.
When the time comes for an encounter with nonbelievers, do you know who you are about to introduce them to?
When it comes to evangelism you seriously need to be in the know of your stuff. Don’t expect to share what you don’t have, or tell others what you don’t know, and expect them to believe or trust you. If we want to be better evangelists and win others to Christ, the key ingredient is to be aware of the one we are talking about, and when I say knowing about the one we are talking about, I mean personally experientially knowing Him. Before we can witness to others, we ourselves have to be aware of Christ and be sure that He exists in our lives. To be better evangelists we are to know Christ personally. We need authenticity. Just knowing Him isn’t enough, we need to experience Him. It is essential that you enjoy a personal relationship with Christ before you can share Him with others. If you do not know Christ yourself, then what will be the point of sharing what you don’t know.
Knowing Christ personally means, being born again and seeing how He is working in your life. It is putting your trust and faith in Him. To come to know Christ your will needs to be broken, your ego to be destroyed, you need to understand that “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me,” as Paul said to his readers in Galatia (Gal.2:20). We deliberately must crucify our selfish nature and cultivate His loving nature. Knowing Christ experientially is letting Christ live in you. When Christ lives in you, you are then able to share about Him better each day and that’s when you come to know Him experientially. Without knowing Jesus Christ personally and letting Him work in our lives, it will be difficult to share the good news with others. It will be impossible to carry out evangelism without His presence in our lives. Christ is the message, and we need to learn and know the message before we send it or tell others about it. The work of an evangelist cannot happen unless he or she confesses Christ, and Christ is seen in their lives.
Our personal walk with Christ is what will enable us to evangelize better. We have to understand that, it is impossible to share what we do not have. We first have to have Christ in our personal life, before we intend to tell others about him, and lead them to faith in Him. For continuous power in our witnessing, we must know that Christ is the message we share, and we need to know and experience the message before we can share it with others. Your work for the kingdom of God depends upon the power of the Lord Jesus who lives and works in and through you. Know the Lord Jesus personally and experience Him before you can talk to others about Him.
