Things we Must do to Benefit from the Word of God

I though I should share with you these things that I find helpful in my faith when it comes to Things we must do as Christians to benefit from the word of God. We know for sure that you and I have to find ways to benefit from the word of God. We can just read the word and think that it is a normal novel, we need to benefit from it. We need the word of God to build us up. Through the benefit of His word, we can have changed lives that looks into transorming communities for His glorious kingdom. So below are the seven ways we can benefit from the word of God as shared with Dr. Gary S. Linton

Be saved. “Being born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, by the Word of God which lives and abides forever” (1 Peter 1:23). When the Word is preached we are convicted of sin (John 16:8-9), see our need of Christ, and accept Him as Lord and Savior. God’s spirit unites with ours bringing it to life. None of the benefits of the Word apply to us unless we are born again.

Read the Bible. “Blessed is he that reads” (Revelations 1:3). Many Christians do not study the Word of God regularly. You may have a Bible laying on your coffee table that you never open. The blessings of the Word are only for those who read it. Can you remember the last time you read the Bible?

Listen to the Word. “Blessed is he that reads and they that hear the words of this prophecy” (Revelation 1:3). This is why church is so important. Hearing the Word refers to it being taught or preached. If we want to receive a blessing from God, we must hear the Word proclaimed. Paul said only then will our faith grow (Romans 10:13-17).

Apply the Word. “Blessed is he that reads and they that hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand” (Revelation 1:3). To receive the full benefit of the Word we must put it into practice. When we do, we will be blessed in all things (James 1:25, Joshua 1:8). Otherwise, we are deceiving ourselves (James 1:22).

Meditate on scriptures. “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night” (Joshua 1:8). There may be times when you focus on a verse or phrase and repeat it over and over again, like when memorizing Bible verses. God wants us to constantly meditate on His Word (Psalms 1:2-3).

Memorize verses. When it comes to the Word of God, we must do more than a casual reading. We need to study it, know it, and be able to use it as needed. It’s great to know where to find certain passages, but it’s even better to memorize them. Here are a few good verses to get you started.

“Thy Word have I hid in mine heart” (Psalms 119:11).

“I have written unto you young men because you are strong and the Word of God abides in you” (1 John 2:14).

“If you abide in me and my words abide in you” (John 15:7).

Exercise faith. “For unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them, but the Word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it” (Hebrews 4:2). When God reveals something to you through the Word you must step out in faith and apply it to your life. Otherwise, the Word will not benefit you.

Use the Word. The Bible compares itself to a sword in Hebrews 4:12 and Ephesians 6:17. The Sword of the Spirit is part of the armor of God and our main offensive weapon. A soldier won’t last very long in battle if he doesn’t use his weapon. Jesus used His sword when He was tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). Every time Satan came to him He used his weapon, eventually driving the devil away (Luke 4:13).

I hope that this shines a light on your heart today.

Because of His love on Calvary, I am forever a secured package

Should Your Religion Be Based On Your Feelings? Here is the answer..

Should a person decide what to believe based on his or her feelings or something that does not change with moods and circumstances? Big question! Imagine Jesus of Nazareth nailed up on the cross, dying for our sins. Suppose He said, “This is not fun. I am not feeling anything good up here. Let me off this cross. I expected good feelings, not this! Pain is not where it is at for Me. My commitment to die to pay the penalty for man’s sin is far beyond what I am feeling right now.” How would you have counseled Jesus when the bad pain hit Him? Feelings based religion is shaky. Commitments based on good feelings are subject to change any day. This unbiblical approach would make all our commitments very tentative, unpredictable, shaky. This includes: marriage, family, job and friends. A marriage vow would only mean, “I’ll stay with you as long as my good feelings last. I expect only good times, no bad ones.” Jesus did not bail out when the going got tough. Some beliefs a Christian should also...

The second necessary step in designing a successful nonprofit strategy is knowing your beneficiaries

Last week I started a series of blog posts on building a strong and successful strategy for your nonprofit and I started with mentioning the first necessary step you will need to examine before kicking off with your strategy. If you haven’t read that post, I recommend that you visit the article HERE before continuing with this one. Having familiarity with the first article will help you understand this one even much better. This week we are looking at the second step to take when designing your nonprofit strategy, and that step in designing and building a strong and successful strategy for your nonprofit is clearly knowing, stating, and understanding who your beneficiaries are. Some organizations talk about beneficiaries, others refer to participants, others to clients, service users or partners. Here we will refer to beneficiaries as the people whom your nonprofit seeks to benefit. The reason why many nonprofit strategies fail is because too often nonprofits and funders ignore the con...

Being set free by the master who holds the keys to life

After Jesus died on the cross He went down to hell, crushed the devil, and took the keys of life. The devil held us prisoners to fear of death, but now we are given the chance to enjoy eternal life with God the father. The greatest gift the human race can ever earn. It’s all free of charge to be set free, for the master has promised to do this free of charge to all those who desire to be free. If you have not yet accepted Christ, then you are still in a prison cell and you need to be freed from this. The only way that can happen is if you humble yourself and come to the master who has the keys to set you free. If you are in the devils prison, you can’t save yourself, not matter how good you think you are in escaping. You will never be able to escape until you let the master who took the keys set you free. You will try million ways and times, but I assure you, you will never succeed on your own. Many of you may say ‘well I am free’, I can assure you that you are only free in the flesh; ...
