One of the fastest-growing corporate citizenship programs is skills-based volunteering, and I wonder how many nonprofits out there are benefiting from this movement, especially for those working in Tanzania. It’s clear that 50% of companies have developed skills-based volunteer programs to support community and business goals. Most of the nonprofits surrounding us today could benefit from this, yet not many of them seem to be rushing for this opportunity, they just keep missing out on valuable skills that could help strengthen and grow their organizations.

They put the volunteers to work in carefully designed and managed projects that often get at the nonprofits’ most critical business challenges. You can be one of those non profits.

Partner with a for-profit organizations. More than 50 percent of companies now have some type of Skills-based volunteering program within their institution in which they’re funneling their employees into capacity-building projects at nonprofit organizations. Lookout for such companies and partner with them.

However, one of the easiest ways to do this is by creating a program and placing it on your website or social media and asking others to share it with those interested to donate their professional skills to your nonprofit. Any organization can start this kind of project and work with a volunteer who is qualified to get the job done. It’s a great way to get the talent you need from people who are actually passionate enough to donate their time and skills to your organization. Providing opportunities for volunteers to help organizational projects is a great way to get them in the door.
